President's Message

Hello GIYRA Baseball and Softball Players,

Well we made it through the polar vortex and according to Punxsutawney Phil spring is just around the corner. We can't wait to have another great season of Baseball and Softball.   Our standard Registration period for all age groups is available online starting Feb 12th through March 15th at www.giyrasports.com.    Please register early to ensure your spot on a team and avoid any registration late fees.

Baseball and Softball Clinics:

In preparation for our upcoming season, we plan to host clinics for Baseball and Softball Players again this year.   This year’s clinics will be held during the month of March.   We are planning a variety of activities for all ages and skill levels with an emphasis on throwing, hitting, fielding, catching, and running.   No registration is required; just drop in when you can.  Cost per player is $5.00 per session.

The schedule for this year’s clinics follows:

Baseball and Softball

Sessions will be held at the GI High School Gymnasium

Dates and Times:

  • March 16th
  • March 23rd

  • 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. - 10U, 12U, and 14U Baseball
  • 5 to 7 p.m. - All ages Softball

Parent Meeting:

Our Parent Meeting will be held March 23rd at the GI High School cafeteria.

  • Parent Meeting (Baseball and Softball):                 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.

The meeting is an informal town hall forum where we share details about our program and upcoming events.   It’s a great opportunity to learn about our program, ask questions, and meet some of our Board members and Coaches.  This year, we’ll again try to have our uniforms on display, which presents an excellent opportunity for sizing your child.

Sponsors:

Thank you to our many sponsors and donors who sponsored several of our teams last year and made donations.   Your support and generous contributions made it possible to purchase new equipment and fund the numerous field improvement projects last year.   Based on the success of the program, we plan to carry forward with our field development efforts and offer again our Sponsors program for the 2019 year.

This year, you will be able to sponsor a team during the Online Registration process, or print out the form in our Sponsors section, and follow the instructions to submit your request.     Please check out the details on our website at www.giyrasports.com

Coaches Needed:
Without Coaches, there are no Teams!   Although Coaching is a tremendous and rewarding experience, each year we struggle with fewer available Coaches.  This jeopardizes the numbers of teams and registered players allowed.  We encourage you to come out and volunteer as a Coach.

Volunteers Needed:

As many of you may know, GIYRA Baseball and Softball is a volunteer organization.   Our program is only as good as the efforts of those who contribute each year.   It takes several hundred man-hours to coordinate all of the activities for the season.   A partial list of activities includes setting up and executing our Registration process, forming teams, coordinating and ordering uniforms, preparing and maintaining the fields, scheduling fields and umpires, recruiting and developing Coaches, and executing a safe and successful season.  Numerous additional activities are required to execute our Opening Day, Field Developments, and Year End Party.

To make this year an even greater success, we are asking that each family volunteer at least a few hours of their time and efforts supporting the many activities required to make our season a success.  Identified Volunteer Activities this year will include Field Developments, Opening Day, and our Year End Party.

To support these activities, we are asking our registrants to commit to providing support for one or more of these activities during the Registration process.  We will follow up with details and assignments for these specific activities as they become available.  With a little help from everyone, we can improve our fields, and make the season an even greater success!

Opening Day:

The year before last, we held our second Opening Day event for our T-Ball, Baseball, and Softball teams. It was a great event for all.  What a difference sunny skies, warm weather, and grilled hot dogs and refreshments can make for a fun-filled day. Unfortunately, mother nature, and lack of volunteers for the rain date made it where Opening Day had to be cancelled last year although we still had a great Photo Day with a special treat for the players. We are hoping this year mother nature will cooperate a bit more and we'll have a great turn out in volunteers.   Opening Day this year will be held May 18th.  Stay tuned for a schedule of events!

Photos:

We are going to continue with the same vendor as last year for photos. We are targeting Opening Day, May 18th, for our Photo Day.  We will have photo day on that date regardless of weather.

We’re excited about the upcoming program and events.    We thank you again for your support, and look forward to another great season and seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Melissa Boehling
